Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that
brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham
radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all
without the Internet or cell phones. It's fun, social, educational, and
can be a lifeline during times of need.Ham radio is still relevant today because it is two-way communication that can endure earthquakes, hurricanes, and most any other disaster. Ham radio operators can make their wireless signal reach far beyond the distance of cell phones, family radios, or even CB radios because of the higher transmitting power allowed to them. It is essential to any emergency situation to include the use of ham radio for communication.

PSK31 or "Phase Shift Keying, 31 Baud" is a popular computer-soundcard-generated radioteletype mode, used primarily by amateur radio operators to conduct real-time keyboard-to-keyboard chat, most often using frequencies in the high frequency amateur radio bands (near-shortwave).
PSK31 is distinguished from other digital modes in that it is
specifically tuned to have a data rate close to typing speed, and has an
extremely narrow bandwidth, allowing many conversations in the same
bandwidth as a single voice channel. This narrow bandwidth also
concentrates the RF energy in a very narrow bandwidth, allowing relatively low-power equipment (25 watts) to communicate globally using the same skywave propagation used by shortwave radio stations.
